The Beaver has been feeding Parkdale and Queen West since 2003, offering quality and healthy comfort food in a laid-back café atmosphere. The café opens at 8 a.m. weekdays for coffee and baked goods. Lunch starts at 11am and the kitchen is open until 11 p.m. seven nights a week, with a killer back patio licensed for your drinking pleasures until 2 a.m. It also just happens to be one of the most vibrant hangouts for the city's arts and music communities, one the Toronto Star has called “an alt-culture oasis.”
The neighbourhood café at 1192 Queen West was formerly an art gallery, then a daytime cafe; when owner Lynn McNeil (veteran of Toronto's bar and restaurant scene)and his then business partner Will Munro (the late, dearly missed local artist of global renown) took over the space. They were ahead of the wave that has transformed the area into a hub of dining and nightlife. The Beaver was first on the block to do brunch right, and a trailblazer in hot evening programming.
Now squarely at the centre of West Queen West action, the Beaver remains the nosh spot of choice for regulars and visitors alike in search of good food in a welcoming locale. They come for their morning cup of 49th Parallel coffee and fresh baked pastries, lunch on grilled panini and homemade soup and dine on signature mains like Smoked Chicken & Apple Quesadilla or Roasted Vegetable Chipotle Chili. On weekends they enjoy brunch staples and Beaver specialties like Baked Chocolate Almond French Toast and a House Sausage that's actually made in house. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are always on the menu.
At night, the Beaver remains a happening space with rotating special events and guest DJs. Check here for the latest events. From morning to night (and back to the morning after!), the Beaver is your local.

The Beaver’s inconspicuous back patio is often not as busy as other patios directly on Queen. And while you won’t see the same amount of people passing by, the back alley views of the Price Chopper parking lot make for good weirdo watching.
