Fitzgerald's, located in the Toronto Beach community at the corner of Queen Street East and Scarborough Road, was first opened back in 1978. Prior to that, the Beach was a 'dry' neighbourhood. This was one of the first bars to open in the Beach and the building retains the distinction of being the first bar located on Queen Street East.
During the mid-1990's Fitzgerald's was briefly closed and re-opened as the 'WaterWorks', but after a year the 'WaterWorks' closed and new ownership re-opened the pub with it's original name - Fitzgerald's.
Throughout it's history as a landmark of the beach, one name that continued since the original opening is 'Fitz'. During recent renovations this name was found engraved into the concrete floor of the basement. And still remains...
