The new B.C. law banning indoor tanning for anyone under the age of 18 isn’t in full effect yet, and lots of salons are still burnin’ up the youngens.
That’s according to a new investigation by CBC, which sent a 16 year-old to five salons in Vancouver and four of ‘em said let ‘er fry.
Sure, it’s not technically illegal ‘til fall. But the Joint Canadian Tanning Association has kindly asked all B.C. salons not to give minors any tanning bed-time without parental consent.
The 16-year-old spy said she was never carded or even asked her age at four salons, while one did turn her away and told her indoor tanning would soon be illegal in the province.
The BC Cancer Agency says going to a tanning bed once before the age of 35 increases your risk of melanoma by 75%. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Canada and melanoma is the deadliest type. Fun stuff.
Tanning has never been more popular and we blame Jersey Shore for this whole fiasco. It’s pretty stupid, really.
Put it this way: If someone doesn’t like you based on the shade of your skin, that person is just a racist anyway.
