Vancouver’s hair salon Suki’s is celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary with a gala event at the Vancouver Art Gallery tomorrow November 17 at 7pm.
Tickets are now on sale for $20 and are available for purchase from any of Suki’s salon locations throughout the city (South Granville, Downtown, Kitsilano, and Richmond). Partial proceeds from ticket sales will also be going toward the Vancouver Art Gallery.
In addition to having access to all exhibits, the night includes a photographic review of Suki’s 40-years, visual projections, and a virtual display of mannequins that showcase hairpieces and costumes worn over the past 10 years at international hair shows. There is also a cash bar and two DJs – on the main and 4th floor – and live models displaying current hairstyles.
Suki Takagi first opened Suki’s Hair Salon in 1972 at the current South Granville location and forever changed the Vancouver hairdressing industry. In 1978 due to the growing staff, the Suki’s Advanced Academy was founded – today it attracts international students and is widely recognized and respected around the world.
