Congrats to Van City’s own Matthew Stowe, Product Development Chef at Cactus Club Café, for winning last night’s season finale of Top Chef Canada.
The 30-year-old Surrey native beat 15 other Canadian chefs in a series of competitions throughout the third season of the Food Network series which premiered on March 18th.
This makes Matthew the second Vancouver chef to win the title after Chef Dale MacKay won in the first season. In all, four of the 16 contestants in this year’s competition were from B.C.
Matthew has been cooking since the age of 15 and worked as Executive Chef at Sonora Resort from 2004 – 2010 before working with Cactus Club to develop menu items and continue the growth of the chain which now has 22 locations in B.C. alone and more in Alberta and Ontario.
He plans to open his own restaurant in the near future, and after winning Top Chef Canada’s $100,000 and kitchen valued at $30,000 grand prize, he’s well on his way.
