March is the month to get your Irish on, but September and October are for the Bavarian beer lovers of the world.
Oktoberfest is quickly becoming St. Patty’s drunken little brother as it continues to get bigger each year. Vancouver isn’t without its Oktoberfest goings-on throughout the city, as we celebrate the best in German beer, food and music. But mostly beer.
If you’re looking to try new beers, stuff your face and squeeze into your tightest lederhosen this fall, here’s our rundown of some of the top 2011 Oktoberfest events happening in Van City:
The Vancouver Alpen Club has a series of events throughout October, billing itself as one of the most authentic Oktoberfest parties in Vancouver, hosted by “real” Germans. September 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and October 1st, 7th and 8th will feature great German beer, food and live music.
Worried about packing on the pounds? The Oktoberfest Brewskidaddle is a good way to burn the calories you’ll be ingesting, offering the most fun you’ll ever have on a beer run. The family event starts at Brockton Oval at 4pm on Oct. 1st then heads to the Seawall (5 kilometers total). The race afterparty will be at the Rugby Cricket Club with German food, beer and music.
Cellar Nightclub will be celebrating on Oct. 5th with special guest DJ’s, beer maidens, beer pong and boat races. Lederhosen and dirndls are strongly recommended…and you will be rewarded with free shots!
Malone’s Urban Drinkery will be hosting its Oktoberfest & Harvestfest on Saturday, October 15th. Billing itself as “two events in one day,” there will be awesome German food pairings, Oktoberfest-themed beers, live music, prizes for best costumes, and a yodeling contest.
